smoke from big hump / brothers wilderness fire

smoke from big hump / brothers wilderness fire

We visited Mount Walker today and saw the atmospheric effects of the Big Hump / Brothers Wilderness fire. In addition to the normal September afternoon haze and some wispy clouds, you can see the brown overlay of the smoke plume. The actual fire is several ridges and dozens of miles north of our viewpoint.

This image was shot at a -2/3 EV bias, with contrast adjustments later.

September 7, 2011. Mount Walker, Washington.

    • We could see Seattle, and a hint of Rainier, but the haze obscured a lot of the details. Baker was more visible, but its top was hidden by smoke. We could see Pete Townsend and Indian Island, and at least one of our ferries, but the trees hid Kala Point from us.
