the tail of the storm

the tail of the storm

rain curtains

Westbound on I-40 in New Mexico. This storm was immense, perhaps 5 miles wide: this is just the back end of a huge blackness in the sky. That’s the trailing edge of the rain curtain to the bottom right. The entire storm passed us by, some miles north of the interstate.

I used to see smaller storms – but just as dramatic – growing up in the farmlands of northeastern Indiana. It was very nice to see one again.

The second photo is more towards the storm’s center, and shows some of the rain curtains.

July 28, 2010. The Swedemobile’s passenger seat, I-40, New Mexico.
